I completely adored his character.

There wasn’t enough of a distinction between the H and h’s voice for me to have found the technique effective; instead, it wirh awkward and jarring. Update and re-post Although I reviewed this book as an ARC inthe title alyssw never released by the publisher. Their dialogue was funny and engaging. I’ll continue to buy her other books, and I think many fans of lighthearted romances and mysteries may even enjoy THIS book.
Can’t wait to read the next one by this author.

There are some anachronisms, yet these can be easily overlooked. He was sweet and devoted to his loved ones, and a wonderful hero. I loved this book. Open Preview See a Problem? In fact, she wants nothing to do with ruggedly handsome Ben; he reminds her of all the insensitive clods who passed her over. It was all a bit thin.
And I also enjoy when romances allow us to spend time with both the hero AND heroine’s thoughts rather than focusing exclusively on one or the other. On several counts it’s an unqualified winner.
Imo, romance books with include suspence are not very successful. I wish these characters had been in a different novel with a different plot pulling them together. He’s No Prince Charming. She can scarcely help it if his cousin is the only other suspect. But the sexual tension was high. And you know something? Sweet romance and thrilling mystery, secrets and scandals. All in all I enjoyed this well written fun romantic comedy!
And, quite frankly, how often can you say that you really enjoy reading about both main protagonists in a romance? This was a bit different kind of book for me in that a good part of it is written from the first person point of view by two people. A tenuous bond develops that soon faces its witb challenge when Ben himself becomes a suspect… 90, words It was simply amazing.
A too-transparent mystery would have ruined this for me, but don’t be too quick to decide whodunit. Helen got caught at the scene of a murder.
The title is completely accurate and the book was such fun. The Portrait of Lady Wycliff. It was thrilling, romantic, wverett full of surprises. It’s a credit to the author’s versatility and willingness to step outside the proverbial box that all three of those works differ sharply in terms of writing style, theme and general tone.

So what did I enjoy? Everett really covers this issue, but not in a condescending way. This is the very reason I thought I didn’t like to read until I accidentally stumbled upon Daphne DuMaurier’s Rebecca in my high school’s lending library at the age of fifteen. The mystery had me ecerett the edge of my seat troule I never suspected who it turned out to be. A secular novel getting 5 star reviews without having sex scenes littering the pages?

The humour is pitch-perfect. I know most of the books I read and review on here are from the Christian Publishing Market The heroine was feisty and intelligent and well done too and I liked them together. A Tryst with Trouble was a witj romance novel that made me laugh, kept me interested with the storyline centered on a mystery murder, and dealt effectively with issues such as sexuality, insecurity, and devotion to family.
View all 19 comments. Barbara is spunky and likable. Alyssa Everett’s first novel. But as strange new clues emerge that neither can decipher alone, they have no choice but to compare notes and sleuth in tandem. That is not to say that the writing style or the plots are similar; it’s not.
